Designing a kid’s room is a challenge that all new or expecting parents have to face. It can be hard to juggle between what’s practical and puts a smile on the little ones face but also looks good and will grow with them so you’re not forever changing the décor. To help with this we had a look at the latest trends for the design and decor of kid’s rooms so you can use them to create a beautiful, snug place for your little ones to play and rest.

Designing for the long-term. I haven’t met a toddler yet who has something to say about their room but once they get a bit older they certainly seem to know what they want and don’t want which can often cue a bit of a refurbishment! To try and prevent this, a lot of interior designers recommend painting the room in neutral colours and then creating a necessary feeling of playfulness with decor pieces and wall hangings which can easily be changed if and when needed.

Combining old and new. Refurbished old furniture may not appeal to some kids at first but as they grow older they tend to understand the value of items with a bit of history. What could be better than a child who loves to listen to their granddad’s stories having his granddad’s very own chair to sit in to hear them all?

Sophisticated wallpapers. Colourful children’s wallpapers with balloons and weird and wonderful creatures are starting to become less common. Designers now recommend using wallpapers that are two or three colours tops, but are playful and kid friendly at the same time… just look at our gorgeous nelly below.

Sofas and sofa beds. While sofas in kids rooms are great for them to socialise and play on they’re often hard to squeeze in as well as a bed… cue the sofa bed! Sofa beds allow your kids to have much more space to play in in the day whilst effortlessly converting into a bed at night time. If you get a good one like ours then they really can be the perfect solution!
