Fabric Durability

We’re often asked which fabrics will last longest. In all honesty we can’t answer this. It all depends how regularly the item gets used and where it is. What we can tell you however, is that all our fabrics are tested using the famous rub count test - an industry test whereby a fabric is rubbed by a little machine thousands of times to see how long it lasts. Anything over 10,000 is considered top of its class for upholstery, so as you can see all our fabrics should last you super-duper well.

Fabric Care

When your lovely item arrives in your perfectly chosen fabric, there are a few simple things we recommend to help it last and keep it looking gorgeous.

Cleaning

We don’t protect our lovely fabrics with Guardsman Protection as it washes off with every clean making it costly and not sustainable. Instead we offer removable seat, back, scatter, and side cushion covers on nearly all our styles as well as protective arm caps. So, if you or a wildly gesticulating friend, throws a glass of red over the cover, all you need to do is take the offending cushion cover off and give it a good wash or clean following the tips below. Once you’ve done this then hey presto, your item should be good as new.

Still not sold on one of our beautiful, durable and easy to clean fabrics?

If you’re a tough nut to crack and you can’t find your perfect fabric from our collection then it’s not a problem to have one of our items made in your own fabric – we can even help you hunt it down. If you do decide to use your own fabric, please just ensure:

1. It has a fire retardant certificate which can be sent with the fabric to our workshop - all fabrics should have this.

2. It’s back coated and not interlined. Interlined is where there is a second inner lining of material behind the fabric as opposed to back coated where the fire retardancy treatment is applied directly to the back of the fabric.

3. You send us a sample so we can confirm whether we can work with it or not. The reason we need to do this is because some fabrics are more difficult than others and we want to make sure that, if it is a fabric our upholsterers are not familiar with, they are confident they can upholster the item perfectly for you.
