Picking the perfect fabric is not always easy with so many choices on offer. It’s important to choose one that not only looks and feels fabulous but that suits your lifestyle and family needs. With this in mind we’ve put together a handy fabric guide to help you.
Fabric Descriptions & Compositions
Choose a fabric from the below to read all about it.
We’re often asked which fabrics will last longest. In all honesty we can’t answer this. It all depends how regularly the sofa gets used, where it is and how often the little ones are building dens with the cushions. What we can tell you however, is that all our fabrics are tested using the famous rub count test - an industry test whereby a fabric is rubbed by a little machine thousands of times to see how long it lasts. Anything over 10,000 is considered top of its class for upholstery, so as you can see all our fabrics should last you super-duper well.
When your lovely item arrives in your perfectly chosen fabric, there are a few simple things we recommend to help it last and keep it looking gorgeous.
We don’t protect our lovely fabrics with Guardsman Protection as it washes off with every spot or dry clean making it costly and not sustainable. Instead we offer removable seat, back, scatter, and side cushion covers on nearly all our sofa beds, sofas and armchairs as well as protective arm caps on most models*. So, if you or a wildly gesticulating friend, throws a glass of red over the cover, all you need to do is take the offending cushion cover off and pop it in a cool wash. Hey presto, it should be good as new.
*Please note: this does not apply to The Appley, The Fosbury, and any sprung seat and back models which have no removable covers.
To clean removable cushion covers, just follow our tips below:
Put on a cool (no more than 30 degrees) and delicate washing cycle with a mild detergent without bleach or optical whiteners. Once washed, leave to air dry away from direct sunlight. When they’re around 95% dry put the covers back on the cushions as this will help retain their shape and lifespan.
To clean the parts of your sofa bed, sofa, and armchair which are not removable we recommend using a dry foam shampoo from reputable brands such as Bex Bisell or Scotchguard.
Dry clean in situ by a professional.
Wipe clean with a damp cloth.
If, after following the above, for any reason you find yourself still in a pickle, fear not! You can always order an extra set of seat, back, scatter, and side cushion covers as well as arm caps when you place your original order or down the line if you get a stubborn stain. Just give our Customer Services team a call and they’ll be happy to run through this with you.

durable and easy to clean fabrics?
Don’t worry, just in case you can’t find your perfect fabric from our collection then it’s not a problem to have one of our items made in your own fabric – we can even help you hunt down your ideal fabric. If you do decide to use your own fabric, please just ensure:
It has a fire retardant certificate which can be sent with the fabric to our workshop (all fabrics should have this).
It’s back coated and not interlined. Interlined is where there is a second inner lining of material behind the fabric as opposed to back coated where the fire retardancy treatment is applied directly to the back of the fabric.
If the fabric is patterned or striped you send us a sample so we can confirm whether we can work with it or not. The reason we need to do this is because some patterns and stripes are more difficult than others and we want to make sure that, if it is a fabric our upholsterers are not familiar with, they are confident they can upholster the item perfectly for you.
