Just like the tides of fashion change from season to season, so too do interiors trends; with materials, colours and finishing touches all up for scrutiny from the interiors powers that be. So, if you want to make sure your furniture is up to date when it comes to the latest trends, here's 10 changes you can make in time for autumn...

Earthly colours

Product featured: The Wardour sofa/sofa bed (discontinued)

The turn of 2017 saw Pantone announce its colour of the year as "Greenery". But, we're seeing a much more earthly colour palette emerging in interiors this autumn; with terracotta's, rusts, burnt oranges and tones of dusky pinks becoming increasingly popular. So, giving your living spaces a lick of paint in one of these typically autumnal shades is a sure fire way to bring your interiors bang up to date this season.

Traditional textures

Visibly textured fabrics are also making a comeback this autumn; becoming a popular upholstery choice for beds, stylish beds in a box or furniture accessories such as footstools, ottomans and blanket boxes.

Fabrics such as Wool, Highland Tweed and Herringbone are all featuring heavily, which comes as a stark contrast to the lighter Washed Cottons we saw coming through for summer. So, plump for moodier hues combined with tactile textures in your upholstery choices such as our Wool Aspen, House Wool Willow or Herringbone Cloud this season.

Statement chairs

Product featured: The Buttermere armchair

It's all about the statement armchair for autumn 2017. So, discount any shrinking violets when it comes to your armchair choice and opt for something opulent and grand instead. So, styles such as The Buttermere, with its shapely scroll arms, perfectly captures the appetite for a statement armchair this autumn. And, go for a textured or earthly toned fabric to be doubly on-trend.

Brass

Product featured: The Malmesbury bed

In the metal material stakes, we've seen copper dominate for the past season. But, autumn 2017 signals the end of copper's reign and the resurgence of brass in its place. Seen on artwork, finials, furniture feet and a wave of accessories, brass is the material to invest in if you want to give your home a seasonal update this autumn.

Styles such as The Chelworth, with its brass castor feet, are a great way to adopt the brass trend in your home. Or, opt for a studded surround headboard with brass detail, like The Malmesbury for a more impactful style statement.

Blue

Product featured: The Winsley Ottoman

Another colour coming through in a big way for autumn is blue. Less nautical inspired, these tones are much darker than we've seen during the summer. So, seaside hues these most definitely are not.

If you want to capture autumns' moody blues trend opt for our Cotton Midnight Blue or Viscose Linen Oxford Blue. And, be sure to sidestep anything lighter, particularly baby blues and bright neon hues if you want to get the mood right for autumn.

Velvet

Product featured: The Burcombe footstool (discontinued)

We've touched already on tactile textures. And, while velvet definitely fits into this category, this supremely strokable fabric warrants a special mention in its own right.

Its resurgence in interiors in such a big way is in part linked to the Art Deco trend that's also making a comeback for autumn. But, it's also down to the fact that velvet, as well as being extremely soft, is also a uniquely hardwearing fabric. We offer 11 gorgeous velvets in our fabric range, all of which are extremely durable and spill resistant with a rub count of 100,000. But, choose from darker hues such as Matt Velvet Mole or Royal Blue to wine-coloured Burgundy to truly embrace this season's trend.

Art deco style

Art Deco is also making a comeback for autumn 2017, which goes brilliantly hand in hand with velvet's return too. So, prepare to see an influx of furniture that's inspired by this symmetrical and flamboyant bygone design. Opt for styles such as our winged-backed Yarnbrook, which incidentally looks great upholstered in velvet. Or, go for deco-inspired love seats such as The Atworth or accessories like The Winsley ottoman.

Sleek furniture

Product featured: The Foxham love seat sofa/sofa bed

Alongside art deco style, sleek furniture is also taking centre spotlight for autumn 2017. So, opt for styles with perfectly squared off arms, simple sabre-shaped feet or clean symmetrical lines.

This Scandinavian style is typical of the inspiration behind some of our lovely handcrafted sofa beds. So, why not take a peek at styles such as The Foxham or The Somerton which are excellent examples of sleek furniture design.

Adaptable furniture

Product featured: The Westbury 2 modules sofa/sofa bed

Another key trend coming to the fore in autumn 2017 is the appetite for multifunctional and adaptable furniture. Designed with practical everyday living in mind, modular designs that can be joined together in multiple configurations is just one of the ways that furniture is changing to meet 21st century requirements.

The Westbury is an excellent example of this; with individual components that feature built-in sofa beds as well as connecting ottoman modules that are perfect for multifunctional living.

Upholstered headboards

Product featured: The Compton headboard

We first witnessed upholstered headboards as a trend at the turn of 2017. But, the appetite for headboards hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. One of the only interior trends to carry through from spring into autumn, our upholstered styles can be made in any of our 130 fabric options. So, they are ideal for pairing with your wall colour, curtain fabric or matching to your bed.
